Anyone notice Tiger's pre-shot routine/waggle with the irons? He was taking the club to waist high fanning the right forearm then pausing and viewing the position of his hands/clubhead. His clubface is laying flat against the incline plane-his swing more rounded then ever.

He has made him a swinger, where previously he had much more of a hitter's move.

I notice that he still has a lot of 'hit' when he misses, his tempo is off and he doesn't 'allow' the club to SWING. A hitter can 'add' that extra umph when going for a big drive, because the alignments are in place, but a swinger who 'tries' to add more, will only leave the clubface open. Swingers simply have to trust CF, and Tiger often doesn't IMO. To counter that, he has a slightly flatter plane than I think would work best for him. If/when he has learned that to a swinger, tempo/CF is always the key, he will be one of the best swingers ever, but as long as he keeps those hitting tendencies, he will struggle.

In not trusting the 'swing' of the club, his tempo gets off. A transition move that is not in the proper sequence in time such that the throw out of CF can't take place until far too late. Ironically, the reason is that Tiger's hit impluse interupts CF. The more he tries to 'manually' square up with a thrusting right arm, the more open the clubface.

In short, he is trying to move his hands faster than he can support while swinging, which while far, far, faster than the majority, is currently too fast for even Tiger.

Given his current grip, which is in a much weaker position than 2000, forces him to rotate the lead forearm quickly and smoothly to save the shot. The more on plane, the easier that rotation becomes.

A better 'swinging' tempo, and he doesn't have to 'do' so much with his hands beyond on plane rotation.

I agree, his new move definitely has more "whoooosh" to it as compared to an older swing where it was shorter and tighter. These days he really rope-handles the club and sometimes you can see him just want to thrust at it and hammer down.

He can probably get away with it on the shorter shots but it'll show when he's hitting the driver.
