I spoke with Don Shaw today- he is one of the originals from the first class with Ben Doyle and worked with Homer longer than anyone, since they lived close to each other.

Among other things, we talked about what can be learned from the Pros. We agreed that little can be learned and mentioned that tour pros do not need to study TGM like ‘we’ do because of their natural abilities. Don said, they are artists but we are technicians-we need to know what the swing does to perform well - the pro, the artist doesn’t. "Anyone can pick up your camera and take a snapshot but the picture will not have the soul of an artist- pros are like that."
They do come running when it breaks down and are lost for a few weeks- pros should know more about their swing but few do. They would feel less lost if they did but.. they aren't techncians.

Don is still an AI on a local driving range. He seems to have a modest business and had many stories about Homer. I asked him if he still teaches TGM (reporters can assume answers) to his students. “Sure, whether they know it or not.”

Don stresses the Three Imperatives as the single most important instruction, “A stationary head would be nice, but without the Three nothings works.” Don mentioned that you really have to teach LAG and the pressure points behind the Lag to most golfers, especially #3pp. It seemed in our conversation that Lag is a foreign concept to many and needs to be taught.

We are so lucky to have found the big yellow garage.

Got to love the machine and all its practitioners. I'll be speaking with him again for a story I'm working on.

Don has a computer but not one linked to the internet. I'm sending him some things to read from the site and he pass on the feed back. I want to interview him in front of my camera soon.

Let him know dirt is fly'in, the imperatives are alive and well, and thousands of internet saavy golfers are learn'in lag right here on the internet. (In a nice, TGM kinda way).

Lynn had no idea there was so much TGM interest 2 years ago until he got plugged in and online. There is a re-birth going on and I'm sure Don would enjoy sharing a yarn or two. .

Mike....... I've got my fingers crossed in hope..... When you say "local", do you mean near you? I am working with several teens through the county's version of the Big Brother program. I need an AI for them, with none in sight. If I could pile them into my van for trips across the Walt Whitman...... Where is Mr. Shaw located? Thanks.

No, I’m sorry Charlie, but local was in reference to the driving range in Washington State from home.

I thought there was an AI at the rather private Aronimink CC in Newtown Square. Let me know the search goes.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. I was pacing. I'll check out Aronimink. But if the core attitude of the membership is the same as it was 10 years ago, I won't be able to get my kids through the gate.

There are no AIs listed at TGM within 100 miles of here. I'll keep scratchin' though.
