a swinging misconception
I have been incubating the Ben Doyle swinging method for a few weeks with chips pitches and full shots. I’m applying the methodology as best as possible given extensive reading on Lynn & Brian’s site and I have a thought/ question for the forum.

I know the left shoulder is defined as the center of the clubhead arc for what is defined as a left arm swing, but consciously the left side has no role whatsoever. In the foggy world of golf instruction, it is easy to get the perception that a swing is left arm driven. As I get deeper and deeper into TGM and further and further from conventional instruction, I’m convinced that an actively pulling left arm driven swing is a dangerous thing. For instance:

Extensor action is applied through the right hand.

Right forearm pickup is preferred method for backswing.

The sliding hip starts the train of movement for the right shoulder working downplane and that powers the flying wedge package toward release.

Puling with the left arm would eliminate ppt#4

The hips provide the release for both the left and right flying wedge. No adding.

The whole swing is primarily sensed in ppt #3.

Am I missing anything here concerning swinging or is the fog just lifting?

Thanks

The right shoulder is the shoulder that rides the swing plane but, the left shoulder is the fulcrum of the lever system- not a shabby responsibility. The left arm is also the string of the Master Accumulator - number 4. That’s the rhythm of the swing that needs Extensor Action. And what good is Extensor Action if there is nothing of worth to apply it to?

Don’t down play the left arm. Its been called a string or a noodle but it is the radius of the Lever system that can make or break the stroke.

I don’t know much about the hip action since I don’t pivot that way. I throw my 2 and 3 accumulators

my two cents

IMO the biggest trap of active left arm pulling is the loss of #4. Also, maintianing extensor action while pulling hard with the left arm is difficult for me.
