Worn grip on thumb
This is a curiousity for me. I played for years and the only wear my golf glove showed was general. I could use the same glove for a year if i chose to. I stopped playing for a while then picked the clubs up again and had this terrbile problem of wearing a hole in the thumb of my glove, sometimes causing a blister. I could do this in a couple of weeks of playing/practicing.

The problem seems to have eased, i can still wear out a glove in that area but it takes a much longer period of time, about 2 months. Anyone experinced this and have thoughts on the cause?

Lynn showed the St. Augustine Workshop attendees two golf gloves of his - one that he used only to Hit and one that he used only to Swing. The Hitting glove was worn out in the area you are describing on the left thumb. The Swinging glove, I believe, was worn on the left heel pad.

Are you Hitting? If not, is your left thumb too "on top" of the grip instead of on the aft side?

That's interesting Matt. I think at one time i was certainly a swinger but at sometime an element of hitting has crept into my game, now it's neither or. As for my left thumb, i'd say the base is right on top and the tip points to 1 oclock, if that makes sense.

I did find an old post talking about the aft side and i'm finding it awkward placing my thumb there, even alowing spacing between the thumb and forefinger. Seen any images around of this placement of the left thumb, that would clear things up for me?

"Aft" is more behind the shaft than on top of it. If I correctly understand where you say you have your thumb (and I think I do) then it definitely needs to be moved over further to your right. Almost try to get the base of the thumb further to the right than the tip is - right now you have those reversed. My thumb lies on the grip parallel to the shaft, and with the tip of the thumb touching about 12:30 on the clock. The 'V' formed by the base of the thumb and left forefinger points just inside my right shoulder.

The whole idea is to get your Pressure Points on the aft side of the shaft. Your left thumb is where PP1 will be exerting it's pressure. The last three fingers of your left hand (PP2) will sit with their fingertips on the aft side of the club. Your right forefinger (PP3) will sit on the aft side of the shaft.

They're all supposed to line up there so you can exert all your lag pressure behind the shaft to drive it into impact if you're Hitting, or to aim your thrust if you're Swinging.

Thanks Matt. It's a little awkward trying to get the base further to the right without really going to a strong grip or having to move the grip more into the palm of my hand. I will work on it though and i underdatnd the theory behind it, makes perfect sense.

Aft is not what you may think!
I had assumed aft of the shaft meant as I was looking down on my grip.
However I think it is more appropriate to think of it in terms of aft side when looking at the angle of descent or direction of force so you hitters can drive PP#1 down and through the ball and swingers can guide it through the ball. So your thumb will be just to the right of the top of the shaft as you look down on your grip.
I am not sure if I explained it properly!
I hope someone more versed in TGM will correct me if I am wrong and use proper terminology.

Steve

OK, LSH, that makes sense. It would also apply to the other PP's then if they are all alighned to each other, correct?

That's the way I understand it.
That is the way I try to do it. That way you can apply force through all three PP down and through the ball .
I am very new at this and trying to understand and apply it myself. When I get it right I have hit some very powerfull shots. Be carefull not to overapply force too quick and cast the clubhead from the top. You don't want maximum force till near the bottom of the arc.
At least that's one of my primary problems.
Good Luck
Steve

Thanks again LSH. When out and played yesterday, trying to have them all aligned, PP1 was a new feel for me. I actually played very well, which i was happy with considering the short period of time i've been making changes over.

i actually had a similar problem i have always played with a nuetral to strong grip than i decided to try a weak grip for a cuople rounds . i dont wear a glove never have and after the two rounds i had a big slit in my thumb from the pressure of the grip i couldnt play for a week everytime i hit a shot it just ripped open again. so like you probably discovered already your grip has probably just gotten a lttle weaker over time than you thought
