Congratulations Lucas Glover

Bethpage #17, 2009

The #17th, in 2016

Well as long as the US Open is moving in this direction, maybe the Tournament should jump 15 years into the future.

Each Golfer and his Caddie/Guide/Sherpa/Navigator, will begin the 25 mile first hole par 150 on the corner of Main and State which ends in Hooksville by evening. Special camera crews are standing by in their 4x4 golf carts to bring you complete coverage as Golfers traverse the countryside ...........

Below is a view of the picturesque 17th, 979 Yard, Par 4.

They may have set it up for Tiger, but the rains messed with that idea big time.
HE couldn't put a lick on those algae infested greens that required a full swing to move the ball. Tiger is at his best when the greens are like oiled marble, and the ball rolls exactly where he hits it with a feather touch.

I agree with tigers putting.........but we have to look at the yardage to play today...TOTAL TIGER SET UP.....all the par 5 are set for easy reach for him .....WTF IS THE 127 yd 3 par doing on back 9 at an US OPEN (pebble excluded)........and to top it off 350yd finishing hole....winner hit 5 iron 9 iron LOL. or something .....they wanted Eldick to have wedge in his hands all day so he could make a charge..........they wanted 3 in a row for him... torry, black, and pebble.

I rarely root against someone, but I am SO glad EW did not win. I also get tired of hearing....."it's close"

maybe if he would have stuck with Butch and not gone to

Hank "I want you to get REAL flat so you can be way under plane and have a huge hold-off finsh to keep from snapping it" Haney

he would have had a chance.

sorry guys I do not intend to sound crude or mean but sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade.

Does anyone think that the Holes should be reachable to be fair?

5 pars are risk/reward

but I think 4 pars are a must to have everyone able to get there in two.

that was always the thing at an US open the FW was so narrow and rough tall enough that the bombers had to hit 3 iron and the avg guys 3 metal then everyone had 4,5,6 iron in.

but when BG is hitting a 18 yd fw and EW is hitting a 30 yd fw that is unfair b/c it rewards the bomber and with no real rough, it is set up for the longer player.

Completely agree: The bomber should be rewarded for his extra length, but only if he combines that length with the same accuracy required of the shorter folk.

Daryl, Thanks for the pictures. What’s the pin placement on that par 4?

If they have graduated rough then why not graduated fairways that get narrower the closer you get to the hole.

I started playing the Black in 1966. Holes 2, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 15 had fairway in the gaps that gave you the option to run the ball onto the green. They eliminated that option in the 90's. Now it's all aerial. 11 also had the option, but they eliminated that by extending the right side bunker to the front. Of course the weather conditions took away all the run.

Yoda,

It was so nice to have the chance to meet you during Brian’s practice round on Wednesday and be able to thank you in person for this wonderful website.
