Unfortunately it was pretty hard to work the rangefinder at St Andrews. Much easier on Royal Troon. The reason being is that there were not many interesting positions along the fairway where you could actually shoot back at the tee. Also on many holes the pros held back a bit to avoid bunkers.

One thing is for sure. The ball bumps a long way and do not be overly intimidated by the lengths they're getting.

One example: I played Lundin Links the day before the Open. On the 442 yards home hole I hit a really bad skywards driver that that bumped along nicely. As I got there I realized the drive was well past 300 yards, Would have been 220 at most on my home course.
