sam snead movie trailor
remember seeing snead hitting all kinds of shots on a short before a movie. tis was sometime in the late 50 or early 60's. marvelous color and clarity. could see ball from impact to end of roll. I was little but think he showed the butterfly shot; high saw and jump right with a 2 iron. any one know of this film?

Was this a newsreel that you sawed? I'd love to see this too. Lets figure it out. O.B. PS KOC I love that Hogan RFT video of yours. The look on the other pros face was so "well Ill be danged". His hat was tilted up, shaking his head, he was seriously taken aback. Do you know who the other pro was? Looks a bit like Gene Littler. Is this a Blakebuster movie? I am convinced Mr Hogan was talking RFT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWKU8o3ewZc |

Who ever it is he has such an amazed look about him. Man if he is still alive it would be great to show him this and ask him if he remembered it. What if Hogans secret was "its all done with the right side"? O.B. |
snead tape
Hi, loved the pun on saw. Tom Watson's Dad Ray used the term saw when he worked the ball left to right and it would jump right. Beast I ever saw do that. I sawed the Snead film at the movie and it seemed to be about ten minutes long. The film was in color, he wore the straw hat and hit all types of shots with different clubs. A lot of the film was in slow motion so you could follow the ball flight. I tried google, etc but cannot find it. Hope you can. Good Luck.

I dont know much about Bruce Lee but remember a movie where he entered a tall Temple and fought an expert of a particular discipline successively as he made his way up the many stairs. By the time he reached the top floor he had command of every discipline and was truly unbeatable. He had "morphed". He had every way and yet it was a "no way" that was true mastery. Homers book doesnt support "one way" methods either I believe. Sorry if I have misunderstood the movie. OB PS If that is Claude then Butch or one of the boys might know of the subject matter being discussed there. |

Sawblade
I just checked a movie data base. Do you think it was an RKO Sportscope, black and white, 10 minutes long, entitled "Slammin' Sammy Snead". That is the only likely thing I can see beside the normal credits for movies, tv shows etc. OB |
Ben's 'Bud'

I'm still thinkin' Jackie Burke is a possibility (still nowhere near sure, though). He definitely was a member of the Ben Hogan In Crowd. Jackie was a Texan, long Ben's friend and a Masters Champion. He also was a friend of Jimmy Demaret (Ben's 'best bud' on Tour) and his partner at Champions Golf Club in Houston. http://wgv.com/hof/member.php?member=1029  |
Right
: :sleigh:
Lynn, I am almost certain that is Jackie Burke. I have seen many pics of him wearing his hat like that. He was also good friends with Hogan. I will ask him next time I go to Champions. But I would bet money it was him. Merry Christmas |

Thanks Rhythm Please ask him and if he recalls the subject matter. Looks to be right forearm takeaway. The odd thing about this footage to me, is the absolutely astonished look on the fellow. You see it more in the video than the photos I posted. The gentlemen in the suit also waves his right forearm around in response. Jack Burke having known Hogan for years at this point must have been hearing something for the first time, something that amazed him and hopefully something he'd like to share with us. Im not really suggesting it is a secret or anything but it would be a really great piece of history to uncover. Thankds OB left. Always thought Snead was the best. Majors were looked at different back in the day. Just had trouble with US open. Also was not revered like some. Like Hogan, who was my idol as a kid.

Think I know what you mean about the majors back then. Im 50 now. I bought Five Lessons as a kid and marveled at the drawings and prose but Snead was my man back then. Him and Trevino. I played Wilson blades 'cause of him. I saw the Slammer play several times at the Canadian Open. One time playing with John Schlee in Montreal. He was really old to me, heck maybe 50 ish. Wish I could kick the top of a door jam right now, Im having trouble getting my shoes on. Anyways his swing was so smooth , he made it look easy, still hit it long. The side saddle putting seemed such a cruel betrayal, he hit it so well form tee to green. He won on tour in his 50's but probably could have won a lot more if not for the putting thing. Counting the seniors he won tournaments in six different decades. Oldest winner on the regular tour ever. Shot his age on tour. I regret never traveling down to meet him. Would have loved to been his pigeon for a few bucks. Should have done it with Moe too. Shucks. There was a US Open late in Snead's career where he was in the hunt on saturday.......man was I screaming at the tv set. His record number of wins might be Tigers last frontier. But he always maintained he won about 20 more than the record shows ...... I dont know Tiger, you might need to get a little more "oily" to last that long! Slammin Sammy Snead. God bless him. http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/assets/...attach/jpg.gif |
snead
I am envious that you saw Snead in person. Enjoyed the post.
|
Just read that Snead had 89 tour wins and 70 other wins world wide!!! Not sure if that includes seniors or not.
Tiger start strechn' and gett'n all oily (although Im not too worried about you). Maybe just put a photo of the Slammer over top of your bed like you did with Jack's major records when you were a kid or something. OB |

Thanks Golfbulldog although I dont think that is it ............it's still fantastic footage. Amazing new stuff for me. You know whats interesting to me is that against the grid Hogan's left side was sliding around on the hard studio floor (no spikes) where as Sam seemed ok. Maybe he had rubber soles on or something , those white soled shoes look odd maybe they are old basketball shoes? Or maybe he loaded his left side more smoothly. Hogan had that extra spike in his custom english Maxwell golf shoes for a reason. Cheers OB |
snead
I am blown away Golfbulldog. Thanks.
