Will this plan work without an AI?
I recently had a video taken and broken down frame by frame. Several things I would like to correct. I decided TGM would be my winter project as I believe it will allow me to address the areas I want to change. I have read the book per homer's instructions and I have watched every movie in the gallery as well as reading many of the posts in the forum so I have a working although novice knowledge of most of the terms.
I want to shorten my swing..which is too long as my hands get behind my head and I want to get my body and arms more in sync..so my legs and lower body action don't get ahead as they currently do and lastly stop clubhead throw away. I have played to a handicap as low as 2 and as high as 10 the last few years. My best golf is when I feel very loose and relaxed and as though I barely holding onto the club....a feeling that seems diametrically opposed to the grip pressure I am applying now with TGM...perhaps that is why I have gone from a good driver of the ball to a horrible one on the course trying to apply my untrained hands to TGM principles. I have my dowels and started working on positions and the mirror work. My last trip to the course was a disaster as I tried to apply TGM principles without the necessary dowel work and short game repetitions. Per one of the TGM disciples I am approaching it as follows this winter. Three weeks of dowel work every day in front of the mirror, then 11,000 chips and pitches where the clubhead never gets above the hands. From there move to a full swing with 1000 6 iron and then a 1000 drivers. I figure by then it's spring. My question ....Is there any doubt among TGM instructors that armed with knowledge of the site and the book and given the game plan...will I be able to make the transition so I can seriously alter the swing? I sure as heck don't want to spend all the time and end up taking a video next spring that looks exactly like the last one I took. |

Forgive me, but I do not recall Homer referencing grip pressure other then a passing notice in 7-1 (it may be in the book, but I dont recall). My opinion is that grip pressure should only be sufficient enough to control the clubhead - meaning, no letting go of the club, no twisting due to centrifugal force, etc. Now...this may mean that your current grip pressure is greater then it was previous. Keep in mind - 'grip pressure' is subjective to the person employing it. Alot for you might be a little for me. If you feel its too much - don't be afraid to back off some. Just a suggestion. Quote:

Totally agree to Phil and Track....
Before I became an AI, I was told by another GSEM - which he quoted...."THE MACHINE is difficult to learn, why do you have to learn it?" Strange enough Track mentioned the grip pressure, Phil is so precise that he point the grip pressure from Track's thread... I still do not understand "the FIRM grip and soft wrist"; In my opinion, as long as we can feel the grip and the lag, "Firm" is very much of our own defination. 12-5-1 is definately difficult to practice, if you are a feel player (Good player had been playing for a long time - with a lot of compensation during the stroke). I find that most lady (Beginner) find 12-5-1 is easy, I find it very difficult at the start, as I lost the feel immediately. I think in order to play a non-compensated shot, is all about, learning the golf swing again. I presume if Track is playing off 2-10...working with the TGM system, would equal to "learning the swing again" Any comment? :( :( |
