Why did Lee Buck Arch?
Assumption: Lee Buck had a 10-2-D grip.
SO Per Mr. K's thoughts on 10-2-D: Very compatible with the Cut Shot procedures. Any Left Wrist Bend at Impact Fix should be maintained throughout the Stroke. and 4-A-3 ARCHED The Wrist is ARCHED when the Hand is bent forward – or inward – “rounding off” the forearm. A small amount is advisable and very useful (as insurance against 4-A-2 above and as amplification of Clubhead Lag) if its Push Shot tendency is properly compensated. 10-18-0 GENERAL Wrist Action is classified according to changes in Left Wrist Position prior to Impact. The Backstroke Positions are “Turned” and/or “Cocked.” The Downstroke Positions are “Rolled” and/or “Uncocked” (Chapter 4). But never “Bent” or “Arched” except with 10-2-C, 10-2-D or Variation “B” below. So the possible Positions – in both directions – can be – the one – or the other – or both – or neither of the alternatives. Seven Actions are listed below. Comply with 6-B-3-0-1 and 6-C-2-A. All Wrist Action is subject to the requirements of Loading and of Grip Types. If 10-2-D is ALREADY compatible with Cut Shots, why did Lee Buck ARCH? More No HOOK INSURANCE? |
Some Other Possibilities...
1. "No-hook" insurance, as you wrote;
2. "No-flip" (prevent a Bent Left Wrist) insurance; 3. To move his Low Point ahead of his Left Shoulder. It would be interesting to hear other explanations. |
Product of Environment
Bucket,
Hit a million balls off REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hard, thin turf in VERY, VERY, VERY windy conditions and check out your left wrist impact condition. EC |
Did he arch? His wrist looks pretty flat at Impact to me in this sequence.

However, 10-2-D says that the Wrist Bend should be there at Impact. We could argue whether it's Arched at Impact, but it is at the very least FLAT. This is not the prescribed 'degree' of bend for 10-2-D. Thanks for posting the sequence! |

As you quoted in your original post, any bend at Impact Fix should also be present at Impact. He doesn't start from Impact Fix, though - if he did, it'd probably look exactly like Impact! :) |
