Start Up Swivel : Pitching

Is the swingers start up swivel with the left forearm required for pitching?

What about the basic motion?

Any advice would be appreciated:confused:

The Swinger's Startup Swivel is required for Acquired Motion (12-5-2 "pitch"). For those who are interested, see 12-5-2-6. The reference given for the Swinger is 10-18-A (Standard Wrist Action). This requires a Startup Swivel (a true independent Turning Motion of the Left Forearm) and a Release Swivel (a true independent Rolling Motion of the Left Forearm) which brings you in position to apply your selected Hinge Action (usually Horizontal Hinge 10-10-D) from Impact to Follow Through (8-11), which conveniently coincides with The Finish (8-12), allowing you to precisely check your Hinge Action.

You do not need any sort of Swivel when using Basic Motion (12-5-1). It's simply too short a Stroke.

Solid post, Leo, and you are exactly right. The Basic Motion requires only that Hand Motion necessary to maintain the Rhythm of the selected Hinge Action (2-G). For those new to TGM, remember that Rhythm is not Pace or Tempo. Instead, it is maintaining the In Line relationship of the Left Arm and Clubshaft while holding the Left Wrist Vertical to the selected Basic Plane of Clubface Motion, i.e., HOrizontal, Angled or Vertical. As always, let the Turn Feel determine the Roll Feel (7-10).
