An Interesting Day at the Base
Well I played Muroc Lakes today (EAFB golf course - dry lakes, BTW :D ). I shot a 76 which is pretty good for me on this track. However, I left strokes on the course like Gretel left bread crumbs hoping to find a way home. I shot a 39 on the front with 3 birdies (don't ask =; ). I hit a portable toilet on the par 3 sixth hole. Enuff said.
The back nine starts with a longish par 5 of 541 yards. It is especially long because it has about a 60 degree dog leg around a stand of tall trees. I hit a good drive hooked into the far left side of the fairway, but past the trees. I punted a 3H down the middle from there to 125. Ball is above my feet so I have to choke down about a little over an inch. I hit 8I. Ball starts out right at the flag. I do my best Hal Sutton imitation; "Be the right club, today!". Ball lands about 10 - 15 feet short, bounces to about 6 feet, checks, small bounce to a foot or so, and rolls in. Eagle!!!! That is the longest hole I have ever eagled and the second eagle from the fairway in the last 4 months (since the SoCal school). So, my holes per eagle from the fairway ratio is running about 120. I like TGM. :D |
Great round Steph.
Any standout thoughts during the round (swing-wise, etc.) or was it "just clickin?" |
Basic Stuff

Nothing real exciting for stroke thoughts. Assemble the wedges, take'em to top on plane, drive down the plane, and make solid contact. I try to do a few other little things, but nothing real noteworthy. In fact I was cupping the left wrist a little now and again :( which caused me some problems. Those lapses in concentration cost me two doubles. Once I figured it out, everything was fine again. It only took 15 holes! :D |

Funny thing is the eagle was not the best shot I hit today. I hit a drive into the desert (hard as concrete - really) on the 16th hole which left me 150 in. I had a tree up a ways that I could not consistently clear from such a hard pan lie. There was another tree near the green guarding an approach from too far left. I had a window between the trees where I could see a little less than half the green. I hit a low, cut 6I between the trees, carried a greenside bunker, to a back right pin position (planned the low, cut part and trusted the 6 to be enough). I had 20 feet for bird (missed). It is by far one of the best executed shots, given the circumstances, I have ever hit. |
