My first post
Hello,
Ive been viewing the post's on this great forum for a while and couldnt stand it any longer. I had to pick the brains of you guys eventually. A little background first and I'll try to keep it as short as possible. This is my 3rd year playing G.O.L.F Ive tried about every swing known to man in that 3 years. Best score to date was a 79 on a decent course, but Im about a 14 hcp. avg. And very inconsistent. Ive recently been having success w/ a Fred Couples type swing. Very stable lower body, big turn, high hands, etc. I take the club outside on the BS and loop inside on the DS. My left wrist is cupped at the top. The downswing is a blur, I whip my wrists through impact, and I just kill the ball swinging this way, but we'll see how long my back last swinging like this. My misses are hooks/pulls, probably because of the Bertha iron offset combined with an inside out swing path. Does Homer cover elements of a "Freddie type" swing in the yellow book? I gotta think my wrist is flat at impact to be able to hit 190 yard 5 irons routinely. Having said that Ive also toyed w/ a "hittting" stroke that doesnt go quite as far but is typically more accurate, and I really like the trajectory. I spoke to Chuck Evans and when I told him I was interested in geting the Yellow book and he said to just surf this site and his site and I would get just as much info and not get confused. I dont understand a lot of the technical jargon and feel to make worthwhile post's, I need to know what you guys are talking about. Would you suggest I get the BOOK? Thanks in advance....Yoda, what a great site! |
Welcome, thanks for posting!
I'll let others answer you swing questions. For me, the book has been invaluable; the forums supplement the book (but I like the technical jargon ;-) ). Be sure to check out the archives; tons of great stuff in there. P.S. Glad to see another hoosier on board. I just moved north of Indy after living in Noblesville for a few years; we ought to get together and play sometime. |
Ben,
Thanks, and I'd love to play sometime, maybe Bear Slide? Ive become such a golf swing fanatic I'd probably really get into the book, especially afer trying so many swings:smile: Is Homer's site the best palce to order it? |
The 7th Edition
You may as well wait for (or pre-order) the 7th edition; it's release has been postponed several times but is supposed to be out anytime now. The Golfing Machine® website ultimately redirects you to Amazon to order online. Others have reportedly has problems pre-ordering the 7th from Amazon, though.
Although I haven't played there a lot, Bear Slide is one of my all time favorite courses! I'll PM you about this and we can set something up. |
Ok, I'll wait for the 7th edition. I replied to your PM.
Take care |
Couples
The Freddy Couples swing in some TGMese...A Swinging procedure, with a Reverse Loop Shift. The book says... "Handled with skill, this Shift can be very effective."

I actually think his plane line on the backstroke is closed which normally causes a short pivot at the top of his backstroke but he then uses his pivot to readjust the plane line which is why his stroke looks slower than it actually is.

Interesting! When I have seen Couples he appears to be aiming WAY LEFT... more of an OPEN-OPEN 10-5-D. |
Mathew and lagster thanks for your replies. In Freddy's book he basically says that he sets up a shade open to offset his inside swing path grip and that allows him the whip his wrists through with no fear of a duck hook, worst case is a slight block right.
Seems to work best with a lazy tempo, and just letting the arms kind of drop from the sky as I fall back to my left heel. If I hurry anything and dont make a full turn I usually cast and hit it fat or hook it badly. When done right its a beautiful thing. |
