John is looking good today

-4 thru 17 @ the US bank Championship. Can't believe Pavin shot 26 on the front. Good luck this week John!

Like a broken record!

Pavin's 26 (eight birdies, one par on #7) breaks the all-time PGA Tour Nine Hole Scoring Record. Not bad for a guy that "can't bust a grape".

As I was walking in today, I saw John hit a very nice iron shot into the par 3 7th (his 16th hole of the day). I was out caddying in the pro-am yesterday and the course is going to produce lower scores than usual. I've seen the rough MUCH worse in previous years. Make no mistake, you'd rather be in the fairway...but the rough is very spotty around some of the greens.

Surfer . . . You are the sublime master of all that is G.O.L.F.

I was doing some reading in a local golf publication . . . Triad Golf Today for those who may wish to read it. Dr. Coop the sports pyschologist, who happens to be great friends with Corey Pavin, said that his efforts are to help golfers play more to the POTENTIAL. And he went on to say that someone like John Daly has enormous talent but is self-limiting and doesn't play to his potential. Whereas a cat like Corey Pavin is MORE IMPRESSIVE because he gets the absolute MOST OUT OF HIS POTENTIAL. Optimumizing Potential. HOLLLA.

Way to go CP!!!! All us SHORT KNOCKERS LOVE YOU MAN!!! Go David Slay the Giant!!!

Looks like you're right on, Matt. When you hit only 3 of 13 fairways (as Corey Pavin did today) and still hit 16 greens and shoot 61 (as Corey also did today), then you know that the rough ain't quite as rough as it could be.

that is not true yoda the rough is pretty bad and corey is the shortest hitter on tour.he is not hitting wedges out of the rough short and off line is not a good recipe.look at the length of the putts he made.still a very impressive round.

I totally agree. I'm not poor mouthing a golf course that somebody shot 26 for nine holes. That's as strong as a garlic milkshake . . . I don't care if it was shot at Maw Hinkles Goat Track Golf in Tatertown, Nawth Kackalacka.

Way to go CP. And congrats on your good play too JR!

Well, it's hard to argue with a man who is actually playing the course. And I ain't gonna do it! If you say the rough is rough, then by golly, it's rough! :occasion:

Meanwhile...

Here is an interesting comparison of your first round (66) stats with Corey Pavin (CP) the leader at 61:

Driving Distance: CP (266.1) JR (289.4)

Driving Accuracy: CP (23.1 %) JR (84.6%)

GIR: CP (88.9 %) JR (83.3%)

Putts Per GIR: CP (1.438 ) JR (1.667)

Avg. Proximity to Pin: CP (26' 0") JR (17' 8")

Scrambling: CP (100.0 %) JR (66.7%)

So, Shotlink tells us that you were 10 percent longer off the tee and almost four times straighter. [Knowing how far you hit the driver, the 289.4-yard average suggests that you left it in the bag on at least a hole or two.] Then, on the greens hit, you were 30 percent closer to the flag. The 'rest of the story' is in the Flat Stick: You took 30 putts to shoot 66. Corey took 25 putts to shoot 61. We can do the math.

Go get'em this afternoon, John!

Well, a 66 ain't exactly chopped liver, either. Hope you are resting up for the late tee time, John. And watch out for that Brian Gay fellow, too.

BlackjackNY 07-29-2006 05:59 PM

And a scorching 65 on Saturday puts him in a tie for 15th. Go John!
