Impact fix
Looking for some thoughts on hitting from impact fix. I have been hitting with my hands in a forward postiion, just off my left thigh, and my hips in a more square position. Should I be shifting my hips to the left slightly to get my hands back to mid body? Just wondering how most hitters set up?

Yoda's apprentice in here is apparently as pure a hitter as you will ever see and hits from impact fix. If using this option i believe Homer has one cover the left foot (RH) with the hands and doesn't mention the thigh. This might make it a bit easier getting the right set up.

But I would say your hands will appear to be over your left foot at impact fix. It is perfectly acceptable to start up from that position. I've tried both ways - start up from impact fix and start up from adjusted address. I believe I'm personally leaning towards adjusted address - but that's just my personal preference. |
I am a pure unadulterated hitter. I start from impact fix and thought I was weird (since you don't see most folks start from this position) until receiving instruction from Lynn. Also, I saw Ted start that way (impact fix) and he packs a mean wallop. It is so much easier for me and now an adjusted address seems abnomal to me! Different strokes for different folks though.

Hi Duke, 8)
Impact Fix seems to be a straighter line to the top and back to impact. It was taught that way by Lynn to us at the workshops. Even through adjusted address is between impact fix and the top, it didn't computer at first. Starting from 'fix' a solid way to strike a ball. Love your ball flight. |
Grip/Impact fix
did i catch in the yellow book, that one should get into impact fix position with right wrist bent, and then take up the left hand grip position

Wow! I wasn't even aware that during the MMOC that Yoda taught that move to me. Heck I thought I came up with that overnight.
Getting the Right Hand, in particular the club in the cup or life line was key for me getting my left hand on the club consistently. One draw back initially for starting from Impact Fix is that if you hadn't been employing the right arm pick up/takeaway, you can find yourself getting too deep at the top and too much to the inside. I even thought of using an open stance to overcome this, BUT then some green guy suggested that using the right arm might be easier in the long run  For my own thoughts, starting at Impact Fix, be it a hitter or swinger, makes sense, it is at least one less move that must be made during the golf stroke. The Pluses are many including finding the correct ball position which is a biggie IMO, not to mention getting the right wrist set from the start. Thanks Yoda, so my new pre-shot routine that I have adopted, gripping with the right hand first came from you. I don't recall or have notes on it, it must have been another fine point that you slipped in without me catching it. What an instructor....... :D |
I guess I still have some fog about the positon the body is in at impact fix. Should I have some hip slide in order to get my hands to be more mid body, or should I just have my hands forward (over left foot) and hips be more square?
