Drills to eliminate too much hip slide
I'm trying to get rid of a big lurch towards the target with my lower body on the downstroke.
Any drills worth working on to promote more of an around motion rather than an excessive hip slide? Effectively i'm getting too much axis tilt. Thanks |
Does your head bob downwards and sway backwards?

Brother in...hips!
Ha! I found someone with the same problem!
(check here, you'll see I tell no lies!) I am currently working on solving this with very poor success :BangHead:. Currently, I feel that by consciously straightening my left leg before impact it restricts this slide a bit. But this is not enough and puts a lot of stress on the knee... Maybe it is related to the feet: weight not evenly distributed at address and/or your left foot rolling on its edge (Have a look at 7-17). To avoid this, someone told me to swing with a ball under the left edge of my left feet. It is interesting but it didn't help me to find the cause of the slide. If you have a good idea you'll make both of us happy ! |

For me i think the root cause is dropping the club too far on the inside on the downstroke which means i get 'stuck' so the only way to get 'unstuck' is to lurch forwards with the hips. The move itself is probably correct it's just too much!! |

Try downstroke waggles. Go as slow as possible without stopping. Try basic, acquired, and total motion all in slow motion from start to finish. It gives you time to get everything where you want it and coordinate the motions you want. Plus you have time to look, look, look.
Check out the video series with Jeff Hull when they go through the swing in slow motion. Pay close attention to exactly how much control Yoda has over his body(especially those hips). It does exactly what he wants it to do. Ben Hogan also does it in the home video. |

Focus on the hands, let the body respond - just like when you throw a ball. |
7-15 to 2-N and 7-3.

"Forgetting to shift the weight or clear the Right Hip is difficult if the Hips are initiating the Downstroke Shoulder Turn--in either direction. Study 2-N and 7-3. 2-N. 2-N-1 "The Primary Downward Force Vector is produced by straightening the Right Elbow--including the Uncocking of the Left Wrist. 7-3 "Furthermore, in compliance with 6-B-3-0-1, Bending and Straightening the Right Elbow will RAISE AND LOWER the Left Arm and/or COCK AND UNCOCK the Left Wrist without Bending, Flattening, or Cocking the Right Wrist. Practice this first at Impact Fix. So, Right Elbow Action either powers and/or controls all three elements of Three Dimensions Impact (2-C-O) per 1-L-9. All this you will come to know as THE MAGIC OF THE RIGHT FOREARM. DG |
