What is the most realistic golf mat you can buy?

I'm thinking about putting a golf lab in my basement in addition to the nice meth-lab I have created.

Any thoughts on mats and nets? I know most people don't like mats . . . but if you had to pick one what would it be?

Holla.

fiberbuilt

I have one of the 1' x 2' mats in my backyard. I hit way more balls off it than I do on the course and I've had it for years, at least 3 anyway. I used to get cheaper ones and never had one last one season.

There is one called a True Strike from the UK that is very good. I saw them in use in PHX in the big Golfsmith hitting rooms. Allows for good old down and out as opposed to down and bounce and up:)

That Fibrebuilt mat is a good one! Try your local driving range to see what is out there. They might sell you a slightly used on for a song...or a dance!

Nets,
I did that one time, went down to the nearby fish net manufacturing company and bought some large used piece of fish net. The company made different mesh sizes so I took the golf ball down with me and made sure that I couldn't push it through the netting- so I bring it back home - set the net up in the garage- Seattle - it's cold and wet in the winter. Had the golf mat all ready- set down the first ball fire away- ball goes through the mesh net- shatters the back window in the garage as the ball flies out into the field behind the garage!! Oops! Bottom line- better buy some solid steel partitions to protect the Meth Lab.

Update

It's 5:45 AM on Tuesday Morning- FBI agents just raided Bucket's home- It's going to be a long time before he's posting on this site!

I tried a net, but it's full of holes now. There are even a couple holes in the wall of the barn, too :)

I was thinking about trying a piece of carpet next.

the old Vet turf

I have several pieces of turf from the right field section of the old Veterans Stadium. Different sizes and thickness (my son uses one to set his cleats on between games) I use them to save my lawn. I have a few pieces left and some small ones that make great remote control dollies for you hard-core philly fans. Let me know and I’ll see if the wife didn’t toss them out yet.
