7-2 Curving the Ball per Mr. Kelley

Let's talk about this a lil' bit . . .

For the “True” Hitter, Moving the Ball back (Hook alignment) or forward (Slice alignment) – always with the Clubface aligned to the Target Line per 2-J-1 – gives straightaway initial direction (2-B). Opening the Clubface (Slice Grip) or Closing the Clubface (Hook Grip) at your normal Impact Fix, produces Pushed Slices and Pulled Hooks and so require a compensating Target Line adjustment to make it square to the changed Clubface alignment.

For the “True” Swinger, “Opening” the Plane Line (10-5-D) until it is square to the Clubface alignment at the new “Aft” location, will produce a “Fade.” With the Ball moved Forward, “Closing” the Plane Line (10-5-E) square to the Clubface alignment at the new location, will produce a “Draw.” The Curve of the their paths, after the straightaway initial direction, will be proportional to the divergence of the Plane and Target Lines. Herein, “Path” terms (Ball Path etc.) refer to total Ball behavior, whether or not it remains straightaway. “Line” terms (“Target Line” etc.) refer to the straightaway direction of Aim.

OK . . . So we got a few thangs going on here that I'm not quite getting.

1. The STARTING (initial) direction of the ball is perpendicular to the leading edge (face) at SEPARATION.

2. The Ball curves as a result of the "divergence" of the path of the clubhead and the alignment of the clubface to the path.

3. Mr. Kelley said that each club has a "straight away" ball position that must be found.

4. Assuming a correct 3-D Impact prior to low point the Impact is Inside-Out (but not the Swing).

According to Mr. K the advantage of the Hitter and Manipulated Hands Swinger over the "True" Swinger is that the Plane Line does not have to be Rotated to make the ball curve to the target.

Somebody help me understand this though . . .

If the initial direction of the ball is dependent upon the direction the ClubFACE is pointing at Separtion, to hit a ball that draws to the target the face must be OPEN in relation to the target line but closed in relation to the path right?

And inorder to hit a ball that starts left of the target and fades back to it, I must have a face that is point left of the target at separation but that is open in relation to the path of the clubhead.

So if we still have OUT left how do we hit a "true" fade with a Square Square Plane Line? I can see the draw happening . .. but I'm lost on the fade. Based on the above quote in red . . . I'm to change my target line? If I do that have I not scrapped the Square-Square alignment?

Fog . . . Ahhhhhhhhh OOOOOOOOOO GAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

Hollllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

Square-Square a 'true' fade would start straight, and drift right, so you have to adjust the machine to have 'square' point left of your final target. From the perspective of your 'adjusted' square, you are hitting the inside quadrant, but from the ball-finish line, you are now hitting more of the back of the ball.

Sounds like you understand it to me. Think inside out cut shot, with an initial stance line pointed 'square' left of your target.

So does this change the Square Square classification to 10-5-D? Or is the Target Line to the STARTING target and not where the ball is to arrive ultimately after curving?

I think I understand what has to happen . . . but is Homer talking about something different when he says that the Hitter and Swinger don't have to rotate their Plane Line???

I don't think this changes the classification to 10-5-D. As EDz mentioned, adjust the entire machine left, but keep 10-5-A (plane line and stance line parrallel to each other and target line.)
Target line - see first part of 10-5-0 "....denotes the relation of each line to the line of flight"

and then from your post

""Line” terms (“Target Line” etc.) refer to the straightaway direction of Aim."

The word Aim being key to me.

So I think target line is initial direction (as that is how you are set up, or that is your direction of Aim - the ball is manipulated, via spin, to the ultimate target).
