Round 3

An announcer said that a Tom Watson win will give people "Hope". Who hires these idiots.

BerntR 07-18-2009 02:26 PM

I'm rooting for Watson now (even though he is from the wrong continent:eyes: )

He is one of the greatest players ever, and certainly one of the greatest links performers in modern times. If it weren't for his putting problems, Tiger would have had more than one benchmark .....

Anyway, Tom just had two consecutive birdies and is back in the lead on his own. I hope he still has the killer instinct.

Heia Tom!

BerntR 07-18-2009 02:45 PM

And Tom is the club house leader after round 3.

Yesss!!!!!!!!!

If I didn't know better, I would assume that the TW abbreviation was referring to a talented and merited *kid* who took his name after a Vietnam veteran who was nicknamed after a scary and beautiful animal:toothy1:

Watson gives me the goosebumps today. If he wins it will be the most spectacular victory in the majors history. If he doesn't, it will still be historic.

D-"Who hires these idiots?"

...other, bigger idiots.

I don't know. I'd like to see Watson win but what kind of "Hope" and who would feel it? Why do they say such things? It's Golf, not a cure for a rare disease.

Curious Which announcer on what network? On broadcast or radio? Can you be specific Who said it and put it in context what exactly was the statement? Let's not deny the goosebumps right?! To have grown up watching Watson in his prime and seeing this Open performance is really exciting. It is inspiring I think so just wondering why your strong reaction...these are difficult times for many and any of us can get a thrill out of this performance no matter what the outcome tomorrow.

Birdie Chance

I agree. It would be a great win.

It was on network TV on hole two or three. I just thought the announcer was selling a bit much. The impression I got was that - 59 year olds will have a new lease on life because they too can win the British Open.

I'm not superstitious, but ya have to admit, given such good weather conditions, many things happened including excellent play by Tom. His putting today was exceptional. Tom was pretty far down on the Odds list.
