It was a long day for all of us at the Rob Noel Golf Academy today, having returned late last night from Old Waverly. Even though we were facing a long drive home, we didn't want to pack up and leave until we squeezed the last bit of daylight out of one of the most enjoyable days of our golfing lives.
Certainly Lynn did his usual enthusiastic, passionate, entertaining, accurate presentation of The Golfing Machine. He demonstrated again that he is an articulate link to the source that is no longer available to us, Mr. Kelley. But that wasn't what made the day so special for me.
Certainly the environment that V.J. Trolio, G.S.E.M, for us was first class. His teaching studio had every amenity available for teaching the game, from plasma TV monitors to project the computer images generated by the latest version of V-1 software, beautiful wood paneled walls with vaulted ceilings and studio lighting, and an immaculate expanse of turf for pounding balls along with a practice green/bunker complex. But that wasn't what made the day so special for me.
Certainly meeting and getting to know Mr. Alex Sloan, G.S.E.D, who was in the first group to study The Golfing Machine with Mr. Kelley, was terrific. He shared many stories of "the early days" that were heartwarming and amusing. He also shared his current teaching programs, proving that he is still highly effective at spreading the message in active teaching. But that wasn't what made the day so special for me.
Certainly watching Ron Gring, G.S.E.D. stripe 2-iron shots over and over in the dusk was a treat. Sustaining the line of compression was not a problem for Ron. But that wasn't what made the day so special for me.
Certainly playing the Old Waverly Course on the afternoon prior to the class and staying in the cottage on the grounds was so much fun. Talking about the challenge of golf instruction over pizza and beer with other AIs was a treat. But that wasn't what made the day so special for me.
What made the day so special for me was the spirit of fraternity we enjoyed. All of us felt a connection to the inspired genius and determination of Mr. Kelley through Lynn and Mr. Sloan. We shared a collective expression of hope that his work will favorably influence more
players. We all are working to make that happen.
