I think it's just a feel thing mostly.

I find there's an advantage to interlocking for me...I have small hands and find that when I overlap, my right pinky pops off in rainy weather.

Hated it at first...but I got used to it pretty fast...and now I hate overlap. FEELS so sloppy.

Mostly about feel I think man. Whatever you think works best probably will.
