Drills for lag
Posted in the basic section and was directed here. Looking to really take my swing to the next level by focusing on creating more lag. Play to about a 4.0 index now, but have never really had the sizzle on iron shots and hit a very, very high ball (a result of a cast). Will be picking up the TGM this weekend, but currently looking for some drills that i can start working with to help me generate the lag or ingrain the feeling i am looking for. Bonus points for those drills that I can do indoors considering i am in balmy Cleveland, Ohio currently. Thanks.

I don't think you need to learn lag, i think you need to learn a flat left wrist and a bent right wrist.
You may not actually be casting but simply cocking both wrists and flip through impact to save your shot.

I really like the right arm only drill for feeling a bent right wrist through impact. The idea is to train your right wrist to maintain it's bent, level, frozen alignment from the start down, through impact.
With a ball a few inches back from center in your stance. Take your club in your right hand only. The clubshaft will run up the center of your palm and your index finger will be contacting the shaft on the aft side (around 3:00). At address, your right wrist will be bent back so that you see your skin wrinkle on the back of your wrist, level - not cocked or uncocked, and vertical with the plane of the clubshaft.
Now simply hold that right wrist position frozen from the start of your backstroke until the right forearm is parallel to the ground which is the top of your swing for this drill. Hold it in that same frozen position all the way down and through impact as long as you can. Don't let the weight of the clubhead start catching up and unbend your right wrist. Always keep the right hand ahead of the clubhead.
While doing this, aim your right index finger at the inside-aft quadrant of the ball.
As for the left arm; Tie it down, duct tape it to your side, put it in your pocket...doesn't matter, just keep it out of the way.
Repeat at least 50 times per session.

If you are playing to a 4 and you don't 'hear' the sizzle, you need to learn DOWN - take a nice size divot. Long, thin, dollar bill sized divots. That will help get those hands leading.

teaching lag
Dragging a wet towel in slow motion, then with the eyes closed and slamming into the impact bag and holding are great drills for lag.

I have been working with the speedchain for a couple of weeks. You can really feel the lag.

Numbersguy,
If you play to a 4, you're already a good player. More lag does not necessarily translate to a lower score.
A few questions to ponder.
-Why do you think you need more lag?
-What are you bad shots?
Answer those and you might get some more constructive help specifically for your swing. While the aforementioned drills are very good, a little more info might help us out. Of course, via a venue like this, its difficult to diagnose a swing based on words, but maybe the two questions above might help.

What is the speedchain?
Numbersguy,
I have always felt the good lag is a product of proper alignments. Float loading on the downswing will increase accumulator lag but educated hands controling a good pivot will aligned the club and body in a powerful lag position before impact. Apply the Star Triad to the Three Zones of Chapter 9 and you will produce "impact envy" in your foursome.

There's a huge thread over on GEA regarding the speedchain.
