As a kid growing up in Pittsburgh the first memory I have of golf is being at the house of a relative watching Arnie making a charge at the end of a tournament. It was interesting watching grownups hoop and holler as he closed in on the leader. My entire family was very quiet and stoic and disciplined, and to see these same people screaming "Go Arnie, go!" as they watched the TV was pretty amazing to a young guy. As I type this I look to my right and see the framed cover from the May 1992 Pittsburgh Magazine which featured Arnie on the cover. I saved it for 2 or 3 years and had him autograph it when he was in a Senior Tournament close to my home. Dale's post above expresses the sentiment of every golfer--Thanks Arnie.
