The Finish
Per 1-L-5: "The clubshaft lies full length on a flat tilted plane."
Per 1-L-6: "The clubshaft always points at the plane line except when they are parallel to one another."
Most tour players strike the ball better than the rest of the golfing population, yet their finish does not reflect the above nor the finish depicted by Diane in 8-12.
However, I have seen Sam Snead hit shots with a finish in 8-12.
Any thoughts on this?

Hi Compda,
Maybe not the expert opinion your looking for but i thought i could get the ball rolling.
Seems to me that most the pros have a much fuller shoulder turn at the finish with the right shoulder pointing towards the target. So if you take 8-12 turn the right shoulder and then drop the hands, you get quite close to 'behind the neck' position you see of the pros. The 'added' twist off plane they have could just be them trying to get into a comfortable position where theres less strain on the shoulders. Or they could all just be posers at heart...

Given that most pros release near the elbow plane, is it surprising that their clubshaft at the finish is relatively close to being parallel to that plane?
EDIT: I suppose that finishing on the elbow plane would be uncomfortable.

Yoda told me that Finish was a PRECISE destination. He said "Richard . . . if you don't stop wrapping that club around your neck and twisting your shoulders all I'm gonna slap the tast outta your mouth so hard that your greasy granny's breath will stink."

I do believe I have been misquoted.
But that was the general idea!

danny_shank,
Since we all learn through observation from an early age, the Finish that we so often see on Tour could be a result of parroting...

Section Boundaries...Not Section Alignments

Remember, Chapter 8 refers to the 12 Sections of the Stroke. The Sections describe general boundaries, not specific alignments. So, basically, for purposes of defining Section 12 Finish boundaries, any reasonable Finish position after Follow-Through (Section 11 / Both Arms Straight) would work. Use Boundaries photos for the purpose intended and not as illustrations of specific Component alignments or relationships.

How should we use the Chapter 9 photos?
