Can it fan too much? If so, when in the takeaway should you stop fanning?
Moving the club On Plane - the incline plane- is in a three dimensional direction. The 'fanning' is not just BACK or just IN or just UP buit all three at the same time. When it is on plane UP/BACK/IN, the fanning will end at the complettion of the back swing, either at the End or Top.
Something to keep in mind here - that grip type plays a big 'roll' (pun intended).
In short, a 10-2-A grip will tend towards an obvious feel of 'turn' going back, whereas a 10-2-D grip will tend towards no real feel of 'turn' going back (with 10-2-B being the mid point between them).
Bottom line, if you feel you are having to focus on turn/roll too much, check that your lead hand grip isn't too weak. Alternately, if you don't feel much of a turn/roll with a horizontal hinge, check that it isn't too strong.
Use impact fix and the flying wedges alignments to confirm your grip. See my post on 'setting up for compression' in the drills section for a procedure that you may find helpful.
