Former Louisville, Ga., resident Brian Gay and Augusta native Charles Howell have secured spots in the British Open by being in the top 20 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Gay is 12th in the standings and Howell 15th.
This will be the second British Open for Gay, who made his debut in 2001. Howell has played five times, missing the cut in his past three starts (2005, 2007 and 200. Charley Hoffman , who is 14th in the FedEx Cup standings, also earned a spot at the British Open, which will be played July 16-19 at Turnberry.
Robert Rock, Thongchai Jaidee and Louis Oosthuizen earned British Open spots from a similar category in Europe.
