DO Tour players have a bona fide right arm Tgm flying wedge? I don't think I am overgeneralizing by saying that non TGM instuctors teach players to hold the club diagonally in the right hand, not in line with the right forearm.
If they were to trace the plane line with their forearm without a proper right arm flying wedge(RAFW), then the clubhead would have to travel from outside in, unless they struck the ball with an uncocked right wrist, which would line up the clubshaft and right forearm. I have seen a lot of swing sequences where the right wrist is uncocked at impact.
My RAFW was not a true RAFW. In order to get my right forearm and clubshaft in line, I have to push the butt end of the club far up against the fleshy pad at the base of my right thumb. Placing the grip in the cup of my right hand results in the clubhaft being diagonal to my right forearm. My fingers are not nearly long enough to have an inline configuraion with the grip in the cup of my right hand.
This traditional right hand grip could be causing my problems of late. Tons of slices and plain ole clunkers. Ironically, I have been doing a better job of tracing the plane line and angle of approach with my right forearm, but in order to hit the ball, I need compensations . Lots of outside in shots which I thought was pivot related. I used to uncock my right wrist at impact to compemsate, but now that I don't, I can't hit a clean shot.
So my remedy will be to try out the new grip, an actual RAFW where the grip presses up tightly against the fleshy base of my right thumb. Works great inside on the carpet. I can load the lag and sustain it (so that is what PP3 feels like) and release very easily and swing inside,square, inside. Aiming my right forearm and PP3 actually doesn't result in an outside in swing, which usually happens with my traditional grip. The grip feels very strange because there is a large space in the cup of my right hand and my hands aren't as close together as they used to be. Also ,much less left wrist cock involved.
As many have said, just drive the wedges to the ball or aiming point, and let the hands controlled pivot do its own thing. I am making an educated guess that the above won't work unless the RAFW is an actual RAWF. Something to work on tomorrow morning.
