Spins Like a Flywheel?
Heyo Guys,
Just going through things and I have noticed that I am a swinger rather than a Hitter so have been reading up a lot on what is needed for a swinging motion.
The one thing that I can't seem to grasp or feel is on the downswing where the right shoulder spins like a flywheel. Can someone describe what the feel is like (ok I know its rather subjective) or have any drills on how to achieve this action?
Thanks,
Alex

At the top, notice the distance from your right shoulder, to your hands and KEEP that distance constant to release point - where the 'flywheel' will cause the throw out action of the club.
This is what Penick called the 'magic move'.
Keep in mind that you want those hands as far away from your right shoulder as possible (extensor action) and not 'behind' your right shoulder. Perhaps best to think of your hands staying 'along the toe line' and extending as far away from the target as extensor action allows.
A great aid, and visual, for this move is the power angle pro.
Remember that the flywheel move is not a 'spin' but the drive of the right shoulder downplane
Another 'feel' image that I have in my own swing is that once I have completed the startup swivel and the club is on plane I feel that I have created a three sided 'box' consisting of my shoulder line, left arm and clubshaft and those angles all stay in the same 'set' until the release point. Of course the reality is that only the club shaft and forearm have the 90 degree relationship, but that 'feel' is there as long as I have used the startup swivel. The left arm and shoulder line will certainly not have 90 degrees, but that angle will be 'set' and 'loaded' and I get that three sided box feel as well as feeling my left thumb 'under' the shaft.
