London LGG workshop

I'm exited in anticipation of the LBG Certified Instructor workshop next week in London that I will attend as an amateur. 1 1/2 day classes and 1/2 day on the range. It's the first level classes and I'm doing my self-assigned homework, i.e. I re-read 1, 2-0, 7-0, 8 & 9 and plan to read 12-3 and 12-5. I'll probably try to prepare questions (righ now I'm thinking about 2-J-3 and Hitting in general).

I'll try to post pictures here if it's allowed.

Now how about a brief note about your experiences with our Yoda.

The workshop was for the first level of certification for instructors. About ten instructors (some only the second day) attended plus three amateurs, including me. We had a lot of ground to cover in two days since we had to go through all the foundation concepts of the book and we spent a couple of hours on the McDonald Drills. We were also given a book covering the major points of the presentation with fill-in-the-blank items that kept us on ours toes.

Lynn gave nearly 15 hours of instruction at a steady pace with technical concepts interleaved with stories about famous players, players he has coached and players taking lessons from him (nice since that shed light on TGM as providing practical solutions for the instructor on the lesson tee). We know from the public videos that Lynn is a great speaker but to see his in person perform for two days, not a second to himself (people jumping on him to ask question in the coffe breaks), I'm impressed.

I had tried the McDonald Drill by myself but I now understand they must be performed with attention to every details. Under the scrutiny of Master Yoda, any little flaw or personal idiosyncrasy shows. I had always had trouble with the finish swivel and it surely showed. Combined with the presentations, I now think it is due to me not releasing #4 at all, I was surprised how soon this is happnening.. and yes, it's written in the book but it did not really registered as it was amiss to my own internal image of the swing.

Lynn's grip is also a thing of beauty, each finger knows where to go and has a purpose. With TGM background you can see them aligned, pressure point aft of the shaft, along the angle/arc of approach, level wrist Flying Wedges being formed. I'm jealous
