Have you worked diligently to develop a first-rate Preshot Address Routine (3-F-5)? Only in this way can you be assured of an adequate 'programming' of the Computer prior to your Stroke.

Most TOUR stars have consciously ncorporated such a procedure in their own games. In his book Five Lessions, Ben Hogan wrote of having the distinct impression he had already hit the shot after having gone through his routine.

Check out Jeff Hull's routine in our video series in The Gallery. It involves far more than just a Waggle. It is nothing less than a full-scale rehearsal of his entire Golf Stroke.

So, focus on Pre-Shot Routine in your next few practice sessions. Then, take it to the course. You may be surprised to see just how close you can come to 'hitting your second shot first.'

:)

Thanks for taking the time to reply Lynn.

My pre-shot and set up routine never varies. Only the results are variable!

This, I guess, is down to improper execution rather more than lax preparation.

I have developed three very annoying and often occurring horror shots.

A high, wide and not at all handsome "fore right" with the Driver. The alternative to which is long and dead straight; but the occasional heel hit has begun to creep in also.

The third horror is the worst of the lot. I simply cannot hit my sand wedge into the green from inside 70 yards without a fifty, fifty chance of a sh..nk resulting.

Nevertheless, I will accept your sage advice and diligently follow the Gnomes routine on the range on Monday and see what transpires. Tomorrow I will be at this machine reviewing the Jeff Hull and Brian Gay videos.

Burner,

Re-start this battle knowing that you will come out on top. Spend some time thinking about great rounds past.

No more playing scrambles, they will only help you prepare for rehitting after an O.B. shot. Here's to hoping no one on this forum hits a putt out of bounds.

My personal guess is you are bending the plane line a bit on some shots (maybe even consistently.) On the great shots you may either be compensating properly or just swinging better. My feeling is that nothing helps the hinge action like drawing a straight plane line. My recommendation with never seeing your swing is a bunch of downswing waggles. Also, moving toward acquired motion length backswings might be a good idea. When the timing of the swing is not happening better to make the swing simpler (less motion).

I'd wish you luck, but I know you'll pull through.

Thanks mate. Some good stuff there which may not be far from the truth.

I practise in front of my patio windows in order to get a look at plane lines and such but nothing beats the reality of a proper swing for revealing the truth.

I DO hit the ball better from an acquired motion position which, as is the case with most of us, gets to be the top of my swing anyway.

The mental side of things really needs work as I can, as my tag line suggests, be my own worst enemy. I am often heard to be referring to the curse that has been visited upon me by a person or persons unknown.

Sad really for a grown man to get into this state over a game BUT golf is much more important than that.
