Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go !!!

Coach Cowher finally has a QB that will take him to the promised land...all those other AFC championship games (and 1 Super Bowl)played with great teams but lousy quarterbacks...One for the Thumb looks like a real possibility...it's about time!!!

Fred Brattain 01-23-2006 12:18 AM

Sorry Guys

If you watched both games, it is OBVIOUS that the best team in the NFL right now is the Seahawks. Carolina was lucky to score at all. The non-penalty on the punt return was a bad call, and the gimme TD later was nothing. Rothlisberger will spend a lot of time running for his life, and even the Steelers can't run against the front 7 of the Hawks. I hereby predict the final score will be Seattle 27, Pittsburgh 14....:D :D :D :D

Obi Wunputt (who predicted in week THREE that the SeaHawks would play in the Superbowl.)

That's it Fred- a little trash talkin- for those boys! Wouldn't rooting for the Steelers be anti- TGM? Go Seattle! I'm headed to Vegas with that 27-14 score- anyone who can pick the SuperBowl winner in week three- must know!

Mike, I ain't talkin' no trash... The Steelers are an excellent football team, they just aren't good enough to beat Seattle. Been waiting 30 YEARS for this day. I had season tickets for the 'Hawks for their first twelve seasons and drove 265 miles one way through two sets of mountains in the winter every weekend to watch them play in the Kingdome. I was there the day they retired #12 (first team to recognize their fans as an integral part of the game).....

Hope it's a great game.....

Living here in the "Burgh" is interesting during football season. The best time to play golf in the fall?? During the Steelers games you can get on any course and have the place to yourself. Last night on the news they showed pictures of the parking lots of the suburban malls and local highways----completely empty. Trust me, this town SHUTS DOWN during the games. I NEVER expected them to get past the first round of the playoffs and now they have beaten the top 3 seeds in the AFC, all on the road. They just seem to be doing whatever it takes. It's all about peaking at the right time, and both teams seem to be there. Should be an interesting Super Bowl. 27-14 Seattle??? I DON'T THINK SO! The Steelers have a history of shutting down good running backs so Mr. Alexander may be less of a factor than you think. The guy that scares me is your quarterback--passes well and runs well. The Squeelers, I mean Steelers, have troubles with QB's like that. I hope both teams stay hot and it's a good game. I'm thinking Pittsburgh wins 20-17. We'll see. Perhaps a small wager such as a dozen balls, Fred??

It would embarass me to take your money, my friend. Matt Hasselbeck beat WA when Shaun went down. We don't just have a running back (the best in the league), we have a quarterback who has become a real LEADER on that team. He grew up in 60 minutes against the 'Skins, and that, as you are afraid, will be the difference. He doesn't rattle anymore, and he doesn't make stupid decisions under pressure. Wish I could say the same about my golf game.:p

When I was growing up I lived in Alaska and the closest team was Seattle, who were anything but good at the time. Looking foward to seeing them win the big game!

SwingNorthtoSouth 01-24-2006 04:45 AM

Next year the Cowboys will be back!!!!!! until then I think the Steelers will win in OVERTIME!!!!!!.;)

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO !!!!!

Hey EdZ, I hope you teach better than you pick football games.

Hey Fred! Uh - what's up

Fred,
That was $10,000 that Vegas won off of me! Based on your "reliable information"! What's your home address- I'm headed your way! On second thought- we both better lie low- until these Steelers fans come off of their high!

dcg1952 02-06-2006 10:40 AM

Well, things are interesting here in Pittsburgh this am. Consensus is it was an ugly win. Me? I got so ticked-off when Big Ben threw that stupid interception in the second quarter that I went to bed. That's right, I was in bed at 7:40 pm eastern time. I had the game taped so I figured if they lost, I would spare myself 3 hours of aggravation. The only hope I had was that as crappy as the Steelers were playing the Seahawks only had 3 points. So, I was awakened from sleep with a phone call from my daughter (away at college) informing me of the win and my wife barging into the bedroom shouting at me that they won and I missed "a helluva game." Now I can watch the tape tonight with no worries. Ugly but effective. Good thing you didn't accept my small wager, Fred!

SwingNorthtoSouth 02-06-2006 08:05 PM

Congrats Doc. I enjoyed the game with a few ice cold Yuengling Lagers......I needed them since the refs blew the 1st Qtr and didn't allow Seattle the TD score. That took 2500 dollars from me for the 1st qtr box:mad:

dcg1952 02-07-2006 12:49 PM

SwingNorthtoSouth,
Sorry for your $ loss. I'm pretty sure if the Seattle receiver does that push-off move anywhere but DIRECTLY in front of the official it doesn't get called. However, if Ben gets ruled as down at the 1 inch line I still think they go for it and get in with the QB sneak. I guess we'll never know.Good teams get past the questionable calls---just look at the calls made against Pittsburgh in the Indy game. Then again, if the Seahawks tight end catches a few passes..........
I still haven't seen the tape of the game, just going on what I heard and the first 1 1/2 quarters I watched. Maybe this weekend I'll take some Valium and watch it. Talked to a doc at the hospital this am who went at the last minute---he ran into Jim Furyk who is a huge Steeler fan and said he was very friendly. My buddy was at a casino the night before the game and ran into a couple of Seahawks fans. They said to him, " Wow, you guys really hate us." His reply was, " No, we hate the Browns and the Ravens. You guys are just sorta' in the way!"

First Mike, NO ONE said to go put the house on the line :D . Second I would have preferred to see a well refereed game regardles sof who won. Being a Seattle fan I am a bit more bitter, however, had Stevens hung onto the football every time Hasselbeck hit him in the hands, the score would have been very close to what I predicted....:???:

Officiating...

Neither team played as well as they were capable. Because both teams were spotty, the refs had plenty of calls to make. If both teams performed better, you would NOT have seen the refs at all. And, BTW, Ben DID SCORE A TOUCHDOWN. A football coach I respect said that it was definately a TD. All that is needed is the nose of the ball over any part of the white goal line (which is 4"-5" thick). He most definately got a part of the ball over the white line before being knocked backward and downward from the contact with the defender. Seattle moved the ball well, but killed themselves with penalties, poor clock management and missed field goals. The Stillers made big plays. Seattle is clearly the best team in the NFC, but having said that, I also think that they played pretty well, the Stillers did not play well at all, and still won the game. I also feel that Cincinnati, Indianapolis and probably Denver would beat Seattle as well. Right now, the AFC is much stronger- but that is something that goes in cycles, and will change.
