The 7th Edition . . . Whatchu gonna do?

What are you going to do when you get the new book? Read cover to cover? That's my strategy.

drewitgolf 03-04-2006 03:36 PM

Just for starters...

On hand will be...

My sixth edition for comparing and contrasting.

Highlighters of various colors:
Pink for what applies to Swinging
Green for what applies to Hitting
Yellow for what applies to both
Orange for key personal fog lifters

Sticky tabs for quick references (you should see VJ's book)

A pencil to recopy my notes (with a sharpener)

My "Yoda Files" (AKA, the keys to the city)

Visine

Coffee

A clock to remind me I need to sleep eventually.

Boy, I hope the book doesn't come in during Master's week :D !

Clue B?

Take it with a grain of salt because Homer is not here to say what would actually be included in the seventh and what would be omitted.

I may use parts of the seventh for certain patterns I teach, however the sixth will always be my go to edition.

As it was the last one Homer published.

in the summer

I’m not going to race over to Joe’s World and buy the latest edition. I’m going to wait and see that the book’s cover is right side up and buy from Barnes and Noble over the summer. Homer’s last book as Bray mentioned will be the special one- not Joe’s.

How cool would a box set be of all editions. When I win the lottery - it will be the second thing I do.

And the first would be . . . send Bucket half?

I'm going to see Yoda and ask him what Homer really wanted to include-and if he tells me,make notes.

Thoughts From the 7th Edition Waiting Room

For some time now, I and others have had access to a set of typed 7th edition revisions and additions that allegedly were transcribed from Homer Kelley's own hand. Based on my source, the accuracy of the material itself and my own sense of "Homer-speak," I believe them to be authentic and to reliably represent Homer's intent. There may be additional material available only to the current owner of the book, and if so, we can only wait and see what further gems lie in store.

Most of the work amplifies the current concepts, corrects obvious typographical errors or is otherwise cosmetic in nature. Many of these changes have been well documented and discussed at LBG and on other forums. Beyond that, there are three items (including their required related changes that were not part of the revisions) that I am most interested in:

1. The Slide Hip Turn (10-14-B) as the designated Variation in the Stroke Patterns of both 12-1-0 and 12-2-0. If this stands, then the illustrating photos (10-14-B #1 and #2) -- hold-overs from the first four editions that mandated "no appreciable turn" -- must be changed. In any event, the 'Turn' description in 11-14-B must be changed to "Delayed" to comply with the definition in the 5th and 6th editions.

2. Hinge Action and its five variations being moved from Zone #3 (Ball Control) into Zone #2 (Club Control). This is a huge change of emphasis -- from Finesse to Power Package (#3 Accumulator Action and Rhythm) -- and will also require a sub-title change and at least some integrating mention in Chapter Six.

3. The Pivot Swing Center Tripod as intended to be introduced in 7-12 (but without any explanation other than a possible reference in a revised paragraph 2-H). The concept demands authoritative treatment, but unless Homer left more on the subject, it may remain a 'wild card' subject to individual interpretation.

I'm more excited to get your review of the 7th than the actual 7th itself. I'm quite sure that it's gonna be a fun and enlightening day at the LBG listening to the LGM.

Now what do you do? Spookie . . . I pre-ordered too. No book yet. The TGM site says due out 4/1. Hope it's in the proper holding pattern to meet the ETA.

Returned it, with an email explanation of the mistake. Asked them to send me the 7th when it's released. Hope they get it right!

BTW, I don't think Amazon is listing the 1st as the release date anymore. Hope someone(YODA!) can find out what's going on!
