Faulty Pivot
I have videotaped my swing and have found I have a faulty pivot.I am dead on plane with a beautiful looking flat wrist at the top.On the downswing I don't turn my hips at all and I think this is what has lead me to hit the ball short and right.
Would plane line tracing help this? Like I said I am really on plane at the top so I know I'm close. My hips don't move and the club moves around my body on the downswing because my body is in the way.Major downswing blackout. What should I do? |
Learn to shift the hips to begin the down swing. Then turn them. 90% of poor swings I see at workshops come from students that don't allow the right hip to turn. It is like they have a parachute attached to it and it drags itself in the way.
Train the pivot, I know some hate hearing this, but the Hip Action leads the the Hands. Drill- Start Down Waggles. It is the cure for blackout in the down swing. |
Any videos on the site on how to do this ?

You need to feel your motion happen underneath you. Look at the thread on the McDonald drills. You want your Pivot to have Lag too. Pivot Lag like Lag Pressure is NOT released. It just "dissipates." And any amount of Lag in the Pivot is Lag. So you don't necessarily have to work it hard you just need each component pulling the next starting from the feet to the knees to the hips to shoulder to the arms to the wrists to the pressure points to the club. That is maximum radius. So kinda feel like your feet are pulling your hips and your right shoulder downplane. Feel it from the ground up. Key word being GROUND. Learn to "load" Pivot Lag much like Lag Pressure. See what your MAX is and then back off a lil' bit and lil' bit and lil' bit more. I think you'll find that you don't need to work it that hard you just need to create the lag and stay in front of it. This has much to do with the Transfer of Momentum that Mr. K speaks of. If Mike O were to come over to your crizzo and chop of your arms and weigh them. Then weigh the rest of you . . . the rest of you would way way out weigh your arms and club. So think of yourself spinning on one of them stools at the ice cream joint . . . if you extend your arms you don't slow down too much. But if you extend your legs your rate of rotation slows down. So hears the deal for the Swinger . . . you start your relatively MASSIVE Body (pivot) in relation to the power package. You drag that sucker down plane starting with the ground, all the while aming the lag pressure you just loaded in your pressure points at the plane line. You EXTEND your Lever Assembly by Uncocking #2 and that's all it is EXTENDING. So with the start down you have a little short radius that you can WHIP around and get accelerating quickly. Once you've achieved that Hand Speed you extend the radius and the CLUBHEAD SPEED increases Geometrically because it is THE LAW. All you have to do is just STAY AHEAD OF IT. JUST KEEP TURNING. You don't need a huge amount of effort because your body mass is HUGE. If you work the pivot to hard you'll just bust up your alignments. Effort is just working against conflicting alignments. You don't need effort in Swinging because LAW is better. USE THE LAW. And to get the max amount of mechanical advantage start from the ground up. |
I did a search but can't find the McDonald drills. Can you point me in the right direction?

GOOD! INITIALLY, that's the last thing in the world you'd want to see. INITIALLY, you should see the right hip SLIDE (clear, get out of the way, make room for the right elbow). Immediate turning would create a HIP ROADBLOCK. Would plane line tracing help this?...Yes, without a doubt. If you go to top, the right hip will be FORCED to do something so you can indeed trace a straight plane line. That something is SLIDE. If the hip does not get out of the way you can't trace a straight plane line. If the hip GETS MORE in the way by turning, you won't be able to trace a straight plane line. And there are no reasons above not to independently train the pivot. Why would you want to place such a restriction on your learning? Not clearing the hip causes throw away , resulting clubhead lag pressure loss. So monitor the fact that you maintain clubhead lag pressure. |
Hip, hip
"If the hip does not get out of the way you can't trace a straight plane line. If the hip GETS MORE in the way by turning, you won't be able to trace a straight plane line."
Very well said. Great summation, and easy to understand. Thank you. :salut: UPP in overcast Ohio |
Here is a video for a drill to work on this problem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnQ6RHepJgk

Dragging the right hip
One reason for dragging the right hip is due to the right foot being
placed to far to the right at address. The wider the stance the harder to rotate the hips. |
I appreciate all the pointers! :salut:
This not moving the hips does cause throwaway and downswing blackout big time. I have found that video on youtube and also a piece by Brian Manzella. Thanks |

MP33, Bucket left me some garbled message regarding you needing help with your swing. He said you needed to shorten your radius for better downswing acceleration. What's your home address? Probably take me a 1/2 hour to take care of that swing problem- assuming you've got 220 electrical outlets. I'll bring the gas powered machine if I have to - just more difficult to haul around. |

And some, simply don't turn it. |

The left arm is a piece of rope . . . |
bucket.. since when you got amputated and replaced your left arm with a rope? You sacrifice too much for the game of golf and TGM !

Then may I advise to stay away from any dog.
It will be a big loss to LBG and I would dreadfully miss you. |

I do have a neighbor that lights fireworks off late at night and doesn't keep his yard up very well that could really use your services.LOL. |
