Now wouldn't Hawaii be a tough place to spend some January time?:confused1
I work with a good friend of mine Blake Adams, and last week we put some work in at PGA West knocking some rust off. A few days later, we jumped on planes at the same time....his to Hawaii and mine back to the real world.....oh how quickly my view changed!!!:crybaby:

John Tillery, PGA is Head Professional at Milledgeville Country Club in Milledgeville, Georgia. His work with Blake Adams has qualified him for the 2011 PGA TOUR Instructor Credential. I'm proud to say he has earned the designation Lynn Blake Certified Instructor.

We'll be posting John's photo and bio soon in our Pro Contributors Section.

Hope all you folks in the SOUTH are fairing well. The recent winter blast is not treated you well. Best of luck.

No Problem..........

Bagger Lance 01-16-2011 12:34 PM

Brian had a great round yesterday. He was well under the cut line starting round 2 on the back 9, and when I looked he was 2 over going into 18.

He birdied 18 and then proceeded to tear it up on the front 9.
Blew past the cut line and is sitting at 3 under in a packed group.

Go get'em. :golf:

Jim Renner, a student of Drew Chapman, PGA (our own Drewitgolf http://lynnblakegolf.com/index.php/P...-gseb-pga.html) made the cut in his first tournament as an exempt player on the PGA TOUR. He was 'in position' after a fine first round 69, but two bogies and a double in a five-hole stretch on the front nine of the second round really hurt: the "made cut but did not finish" rule (that usually applies after Round 3) was applied to the entire 36 holes of Sunday's closing finish.

To Jim's credit, he hung tough and made four birdies in the remaining ten holes, but it wasn't quite good enough. All the best, Jim, for the West Coast swing!

Bringin' Home the Bacon

BG shot even-par 70 in this morning's Round 3 and is 2-under after 4 in the afternoon round. (He started on #10). Could go low!

Push Basic Stroke At The Sony

Mark Wilson just executed a beautiful little pitch shot on #9 using the Push Major Basic Stroke (10-3-C). This Stroke uses Component Variations entirely different from those he employs in his Full Strokes.

The Push Basic Stroke features an "up and out" Right Elbow position that aligns the Hands between the Elbow and the Ball throughout the Stroke. Release triggers a ponderous, Right Arm 'pushing' motion through Impact. It is a pure Hitting Stroke that almost always produces Angled Hinging (as it did here on both the Backstroke and Downstroke). And, by its very nature, always with Low Power.

You don't see it very often. Which is why we should forgive Sir Nick Faldo for his failure to identify and analyze it correctly in the SwingVision segment. He spoke of "Steep", "Clubface Shut", and "Wrists rolled under". All true, but also all part and parcel of this unique procedure.

Unfortunately, Sir Nick's negative tone left the impression there were many mistakes made. Instead, the shot was well-executed and afforded a great opportunity to educate viewers regarding a perfectly valid, albeit unconventional, procedure being used by the tournament leader. At the very least, we could have enjoyed an expert explanation of something "new and different", its advantages and disadvantages.

:crybaby:

Oh, Mark just made the putt for a birdie and a 4-shot lead!

Movin' On Up

BG went out in 4-under 31 and is now 7-under for the tournament and T22.

Hawaiian Punch

BG finished with a 64 (-6), low round of the day. That put him at 271 (-9) for the tournament and T13. Great final round and a solid start for the year.

Next stop: Bob Hope Classic in La Quinta, California!

Thanks for the kind words, Yoda. Despite making the cut, but not playing the weekend, Jim took home $10,395.00 in his first official event. He finished second in driving distance 308.0 and I believe first overall in driving. But, as we all know, drive for show.

mb6606 01-17-2011 09:35 PM

Drew,
I thought Jim did Well for his first event having never seen the course.
Pretty tough when you shoot 69-70 and miss the cut. He just has to keep grinding and wait for the whole game to get hot.

Jim Renner did not miss the cut. He just didn't get to finish the final 36. The tourney still counts as a 'cut made' for various PGA TOUR qualifications, including the FedEx Cup.

See my earlier post above regarding this unusual circumstance.

That is incredible. The snow here in Northern New Mexico is starting to melt, and signs of Spring are all about. This means that another storm will hit just as the golf course is scheduled to open.

I'm heading south to sunny FLA. As it seems to be the only State that doesn't have snow. I hope to see you at the PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit.

Sligo,

We've got a group of us meeting for dinner Wednesday evening. You're welcome to join us. PM me if you'd like to attend so I can add you to our reservations list.

The same goes for any other attending professional. Drop me a PM, and we'll make it happen!

Lynn,

Was there changes to Brian's swing that you made during the off season?

Is there an off season anymore?

No. BG and I are still working on the same major issue we worked on for three days at Cuscowilla the week prior to the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. I won't go into here for two reasons:

1. It is privileged information.

2. There are those who would use it to hurt us.

We spent more than an hour together yesterday in two phone calls after his round. The first was from the practice tee at La Quinta and the second was prior to his workout. In between, he sent a real-time video that he, me and caddie, Kip Henley, discussed.

BG was 3-under today. But then, he was 3-under yesterday, too. Are we making progress?

I think so.

And so does Brian.

One thing's for sure . . .

From any position in the Backstroke . . .

The Man knows Impact.

Man those guys are good...

They talk about how easy those courses are... I was lucky enough to play a tournament at the Nicklaus Private Course at PGA West, the one where they all go low. To your average club pro, it certainly IS NOT an easy golf course. It was a great challenge for me, and one of my favorite courses I've had the pleasure to play.

Man those guys are good...

Keep it going Brian!

Kevin

JTillery 01-21-2011 10:55 PM

crazy good

These guys are REALLY REALLY good. Lynn can vouch for this too, but tv and the announcers just don't do it justice. Two weeks ago while working with Blake, Boo stayed at the house with us and they practiced together as they're good friends. After we got our work in each morning, we rounded up Boo and they played three of the courses and man they make it look easy. Im no slouch myself, but its a different level. Im really excited about my guys future if he can stay healthy, he's a super talented guy and an extraordinary athlete!....BTW, look for Mr. Weekley to have a big year......he hits it so good it should be a sin......TALK ABOUT COMPRESSION!!!
