Playing in wet weather gear

Not sure if this is the ideal place for this thread but as a swinger it's seems as appropriate as any...

Well once again the great British summer seems to be a big let down. Played on Sunday in the wind and rain and had a terrible time. I've never been able to play in wet weather gear, Sunday wasn't any different. Straight topped my 2 iron on the first. After 3 holes i'd had enough and decided to brave the rest of my round in my t-shirt.

It seems that with all that gear on it makes my bobbing worse (which i still haven't solved, theres a thread somewhere on it) and i loose all freedom to swing my arms, everything gets caught up.

Can anyone give me any advice, i've a big comp on Saturday and no doubt the heavens will open again.

Cheers,

Danny

Try a short sleeve waterproof pullover. Zero restriction and Foot-joy make the best ones. If you must wear a long sleeve make sure it is loose, again Zero is the best in my opinion. The key to playing in rain is preparation. Make sure you have plenty of gloves and towels and keep them dry. I use big zip-lock bags.

As far as swinging goes, the extra clothes will make you feel like you have to overswing, but don't! I reaaly focus on establishing an impact fix head location and maintaining it throughout. This makes me feel very low and I tend to not overswing when I try to maintain this crucial position. Try to swing the club from a top position rather than end. Remember the speed comes through the ball not on the backswing.

Good luck and stay dry.

You have some great wet weather gear over there in the likes of Sunderland.

Zero Restriction gear is at the top of my list, although the new Sun Mountain RainFlex pullover I just got is pretty darn nice---waterproof and stretchy! Might be what you're looking for.

I always wear a short-sleeved top, use a floppy bucket hat and 2 Footjoy rain gloves (be sure to wet them for best grip.)

Danny,
Oh the memories! I used to play every week when I lived in England, year round and it wasn't so much the waterproofs as the T shirt, shirt sweater underneath.
However ,this time of year it shouldn't be that cold(!).
I played there last winter and I had just bought a PING top -no elastic waist
and removable arms (they unzip).
Recomended:thumleft:

Yep that Sunderland gear is brilliant for keeping either totally dry from head to toe or letting your arms get wet for sleeveless gear.

I find many players get bugged but the sound of the wet weather gear during a swing. Kind of goofy but shows your mind is not on the job at hand.
