Radius (e.g. using Left Wrist Cock) the Flail can accelerate easily and quickly acquire considerable
Angular Velocity.
For those with a mathematical bent:
Angular momentum = mass x radius x angular velocity
In other words,
angular velocity = angular momentum / (mass x radius)
With angular momentum being
constant (because it's
always conserved- it's a
Law), a decrease in radius results in an increase in angular velocity.
