Often times in popular magazines the "release" of the putter is confused with the "flip" of the hands. In other words people feel or think (or whatever people do) a release is allowing the putter head to swing past the hands which is not a release at all but in fact "Throwaway". (Throwing the putter head past the hands during impact.

A hinge is control of the clubface during the impact interval- closing only the face, closing and layingback the face, or layingback the face only. Sometimes people "think" the only way this can happen is to throw the putter head at the ball during impact. Naughty, Naughty!!

However, there is a "hit" in putting. Good putters often times "feel" as though they "hit" the ball and this too brings up some interesting questions. As for now, I would trace and straight plane line and work on my hinges. Then go "hit" the putt in the hole.
