-I think you nailed it there. It's easy for me to take it back as a hitter but coming down is a different story. Any drills for the downswing to ingrain the feel of an angled hinge?
It may also be the case that you are not cross line 'feel' with your motion.

Do some split grip drills focusing on the right arm extending 'out to right field' a bit. Just hip high to hip high will be enough for you to feel that you now have the 'room' to extend your right arm.
