Makes sense to 'start' with the weight uphill for a downhill shot, and then let gravity do its thing through impact. I suspect in your testing you tried to 'keep' the weight uphill.

Very useful for downhill sand shots to 'fall' through the shot and step through (A trick Ted showed me for severe downhill sand shots)
