The reason you can't sustain the lag is because you are so eager to make the club move fast (a reaction to the intent of "hitting it far"). So on a full shot you throw it away too early, which doesn't happen for your short chip. (bts)

Sam Snead I thought, or someone before him..... I recall Snead mentioning this in one of the Academy Live interviews some years back.

a) Be the ball.
b) Swing from your feet.
c) The ball is on the club for 4/10,000 of a second.
d) Don't take the whole bottle of aspirin.
e) Early set of the wrists
f) Deflect into the counterfall.
g) You can only swing as fast as you can run.
h) Force Vectors
i) Clean pick-off
j) Rotary swing
k) Swing the weed cutter.
l) Release swivel
m) Feel oily when you swing.
n) I wish I had three right hands.
p) I hit it a little in the heel to fade the ball.
q) Hit right to left putts slightly on the toe.
r) Left wrist throw
s) Don't think of anything when you swing.
t) Swing cues
u) Reverse roll
v) Radius locks
w) Have one good friend.
x) Swing into a firm left side.
y) The claw
z) Double shift
