I was puring 7 and 8 irons all day at the range and my 6 iron is pretty solid too. I mean I was just nailing everything I hit. Taking great divots and hitting very long, straight, pure shots.
However, as soon as I get a 5 iron, 4 iron, or wood in my hands I simply cannot keep it together.
I continually lose the ball right. Sometimes high, sometimes low. But almost ALWAYS right.
Any reasons for this?
I would LOVE to have success with long irons and woods with hitting because I know that power and consistency is there. The few solid drives that I have had have been stupid long with great trajectory.
I just can't repeat it.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Check ball position. It is quite likely that it have moved too far back in your stance. The shorter irons have enough 'hook face' to let you get away with it, but the longer clubs don't.
