Brian Gay at The Players Championship
Taking a vacation this week and spending it playing golf and hitting the TPC every afternoon. Followed Brian from #5 through #9. Sorry to say that as his practice partners (Steve Stricker and Tim Herron) were teeing off on #9, Brian was on the ground stretching his back---did not tee off and just pretty much walked the 9th hole . Did hit 2 pitch shots with a sand wedge and while standing on the green, took a couple of small swings without a club and grabbed his left lower back both times. Hope the folks in the fitness trailer can get him ready for Thursday.
The compression that ALL of these guys do is amazing. Talk about effortless power......

Pleased to say that Brian did play today---last I checked he was +3 which wasn't too bad considering the conditions----VERY windy , sudden strong gusts, in your face and then suddenly cross wind---you get the picture. Shaun Micheel changed clubs 4 times on #17----and then went long and over the green into the water. Brutal.

Mama Was Right (She Said That There'd Be Days Like This)
Brian had a rough day today, closing with an 8-over par 80. He made no doubles, but no birdies either, and he was unable to scramble for the pars he needed. Plus, I've never seen his Putts per GIR stat at 2.25. But when the wind blows like it did today, such things happen. All in all, the course and conditions made for the 2nd toughest opening day in the history of the Players Championship. Tomorrow is another day!

He should be playing in the morning on Friday (I Hope) and be able to make the cut with a calmer golf course. Just like Phil and Rory.
