Pull
I've been working on my alignment with the help of my dowels. What I have learned is that I set up way right of target and either hit it dead right or pull it back to the target.I thought I always pushed the ball but just the opposite.
I do I correct this or what should I work on.

First you need to learn how to get your eye to be comfortable with lining up square. You can do this a number of ways. One thing in the book is to set up to the ball left handed if you are right. Your brain doesn't have any experience from the opposite side of the ball as far as hitting pulls or basically Steering. When you do that you'll be surprised how you can line up square.

So lay a dowel on the ground representing your target line. Lay another dowel on the ground PERPENDICULAR to that dowel. Now instead of focusing on lining your body up parallel to the plane line . . . focus up on lining up perpendicular to it. This is how David Orr teaches alignment and I think it is superior to parallel thoughts.

Obviously you can't do that on the golf course. But this is a procedure that Jeff Hull showed me that can really allow you to use your instincts. He said to get your right hand on the club. Set your right forearm flying wedge. Then walk to the ball. Sole the club behind the ball as you like it. Now looking at the target align your #3 pressure point to the target and align then move your body to suit that alignment. I do this on the putting green alot. It is AMAZING how good your instinct are if you allow them to work for you. Also it frees you up with regards to worring about whether you are lined up properly or not.

Next . . . once you have figured out how to line up. You need to learn how to relate all the motions TO THE PLANE LINE. A good video on the Gallery is Roll on that Line. You need to learn how to relate your pivot (Hip Action in particular) to your Delivery Line. The you need to learn how to UNCOCK to the plane line and then ROLL on the plane line. Sounds like to me you are steering. So these motions are going to feel much more OUT than what you are used to. Get used to that. It is down on plane and out on plane TO LOW POINT. You don't go in until after low point. Lasers may help you too.

Another thing that you may need to search on is Inside Out Cut Shot Therapy. This will help you learn that the ClubFACE adheres to the Line of Flight but the ClubHEAD motion should be govened by the the Delivery Line . . . in the case of Inside Out Cut Shots . . . OUT TO RIGHT FIELD. You will probably hit everything right at first. Just keep going out but learn that even though the clubhead is going out the clubface should be square to your target at separation so the ball will go straight at your target even thought the clubhead is crossing your target line.

Holla.

Bucket,

Thanks for the well written response.I'm working hard on alignment and it is a real shock to find that I'm swinging "in" when I thought I was "out."
Feel and Real again.
I will try the setting up perpendicular as that sounds like a great idea.

Steering might possiblily happening as I don't get compression on every shot.
