Trail hand grip in hitting
YodasLuke:
I am trying to learn the hitting stroke and am confused by the trail hand grip. Should the handle lie in the palm and be in line with the trail forearm at address? The way I have it pictured is something like a "single axis" swing, e.g., Moe Norman. When I try to do this in front of a mirror, it seems to make me reach out in order to achieve this alignment. I do have a copy of The Golfing Machine, but can't find a picture of the hitting setup, etc.
Thanks

You are correct in that the trail hand will grip the club more in the palm then you may be used to. Gripping the club in the right palm should align the clubshaft with the right forearm (not the upper arm). If you want to look at a pretty good picture (assuming you have Version 6 of the book, check out the picture in 9-2-2 #2 on page 124. As you will see, her right forearm may appear to be a bit higher than some of us are used to...however, after building this feel into your Machine, you will start to enjoy it!
Also, it is very common for hitters to start the pick-up/takeaway from Impact Fix. You can reference Diane in the picture just left of the one I referenced above!
Let us know if there is still some fog!

You may feel as though the arms are a little farther from the body, simply because everyone has been told to "let their hands hang." The right hand should be vertical to the ground with the left thumb on the aft side of the shaft. The left thumb then fits in the palm of the right hand or in the #1 pressure point.
The right forearm is in line with the shaft as described in 7-3.

A Historic Moment!
A Historic Moment: Ted Fort's (YodasLuke) first post on this site! We're all in for a real treat 'cause this guy is a seasoned teaching professional who knows his TGM and, best of all, how to get results with his students. I expect this section of the Forum to be one of the most visited areas on our site.
Welcome, Ted. You're a terrific addition to our site, and I'm proud to be associated with you. Thanks for making the commitment to share what you've learned about G.O.L.F. and those who would improve their Game with our membership.

Thanks
Thanks, FL and YodasLuke for pointing out the key passages in the book for me. And yes, Yoda, I think this will be an extremely popular spot in the forum!
