Greg - not meaning to kill those new feelings, but most hitters are using the strong single action grip with the thump on the aft side of the grip which by some are done by actually making a small gap between the hand and the thumb.

I'm not the expert, so hopefully Ted or one of the other gurus are chiming in on this.
