This is reminiscent of our phone conversation the other day. I know I recommended introducing drive loading for these shots to help reduce the speed, but since in your post above you ask for a swinging alternative, I would instuct your student to utilize LESS AXIS TILT, which as you know,
will encourage an earlier alignment of the flail and a slower , softer impact.
