Just a little confused by your post. To give the hands this straight path doesn't the hip movement have to be continuous? How does this relate to the bump and then turn of the hips i often see advocated? Or do you only need the bump if you swing to end?

The "bump" (Hip Slide parallel to Delivery Line) allows the Right Shoulder move down the Plane and gives you Axis Tilt. This is what allows for the Straight Line Delivery Path of the Hands. If you don't do your "hip bump" then your hands will travel in a much more circular fashion. The Hip Slide and Turn should be smooth and continuous. You need to Hip Slide even if you only reach the Top.
