Great Private Lesson
My brother and I recently spent a half-day with Lynn and we now both have a much greater understanding of TGM as well as specific drills and ideas that we now need to incorporate into our individual stroke patterns. I was learning TGM through the book and online forums and felt I had a good basic understanding, but Lynn pointed out things I was doing that were in direct opposition to a solid motion. It is no wonder that my progress with my own instructuion had stopped. We started with the basic motion (chipping) keeping that left wrist FLV. Lynn corrected my address routine as well as my head position and stance. He had me do the "drag the mop" drill and my fat shots stopped. He then did a great presentation on wrist positions and flying wedges. He taught us the MacDonald drills and got us to perform them correctly. He put our total motion swing on video and pointed out each of our problem areas. My main problem was starting out in a fix position and pulling the club in around my body with my shoulders. We then went into the aquired motion with my new standard address position keeping in mind the free swinging arms learned with the MacDonald drills. My first shot was beautiful with a great sound of compression at impact and a nice post ball divot that I never experienced before. He then did a presentation on tracing the plane line using a bench that really brought home the concept. We then went into the total motion and Lynn spotted that I was adding a swivel at impact trying to prepare for the proper swivel out of follow through which lead to an arched left wrist at finish, not flat. I hit some perfect shots with great compression and with practice and Lynn's guidance I know I am going to play better golf. After having my lesson with Lynn, the book and videos and forum threads actually make alot more sense to me, so the personal lesson with Lynn was the best thing I could have done for my golf game. Thanks again Lynn - we'll get another lesson scheduled once I get all this in the computer.
