Ok....... 3 day event this weekend and I manage to make a miserable total of 1 birdie in 54 holes. A simply horrible performance considering how well I hit the ball in general.
They tend to get a little carried away with pin placements in this event and this year was no different...... lots of pins on small shelves, at the base of slopes, etc. I hit it pretty well each day..... but in the 80 to 110 yard range I rarely got it as close as I should. I tend to spin my full wedges and I had many wedge shots that required a "drop and stop" ball behavior in order to get it close. Unfortunately I had several of these land near the pin but ended up 30 feet away as they would spin towards me.
Any suggestions for hitting those shots? For a swinger is a circle delivery path the best approach to keeping the ball from getting too "active" after impact?
Yoda...... I know that Brian Gay is considered one of the best with the wedge. Any "tour secrets" that you can divulge?
At some point wedge play in that 80 to 120 is all about going low and not about simply saving par. The frustration level that goes with the lack of hitting it close inside of 120 is maddening!
