FBR Open / PGA TOUR / January 31-February 3, 2008
Brian Gay today shot a 5-under par 66 and is one shot off the lead. Check it out at http://www.pgatour.com/2008/tourname...gay/index.html.

Jay Williamson brought it home with a fine 2-under par 69 and is currently T34.

With most of the field in, Round 1 play has been suspended due to darkness and will resume tomorrow at 7:40 a.m. local time.

Keep it going, guys!

Great Round. The course played tougher than usual and Brian came through with some great crucial shots.

Ah, the life of the PGA TOUR pro! Just wake up every day in resort locations, head out to a fabulous golf course, then exercise your God-given talent and shoot 3 or 4 or more under par.

R-i-g-h-t . . .

Look at Brian Gay's card today:

A birdie at the first. Then bogies at 6 and 7. Back at'cha birdies at 8 and 9. A par. Then disaster at 11 -- a triple. Ugh . . . all that hard work gone!

But you can't quit, no matter how easy it would be. Instead, you dig deep.

Par at 12, then birdie, birdie -- take that! -- on 13 and 14.

Pars in and you have 71 . . .

A not-so-even par round filled with more 'gut checks' than you can imagine.

This is what it takes to make it on the PGA TOUR.

This is what you have to do:

Play good . . .

When you're playin' bad.

That is what Brian Gay had to do today.

And that is exactly what he did.

Jay Williamson -- Gettin' It Done at the FBR
Congrats to Jay Williamson on his fine round of 68 today. His two-day total of 137, 5-under, is T21.

That tie, incidentally, is 14-way.

One slip, and fifty guys run over you.

The PGA TOUR . . .

Land of the Meateaters.

There will be a long line at the pay window tomorrow.

Step ahead, guys!

2008 FBR Open Recap
Brian Gay today shot his second consecutive 2-under par 69, including birdies on four of the final seven holes.

His 65-71-69-69=275 earned a T17 finish and a check for $90,000.

Jay Williamson found the going a little tougher, closing with a 3-birdie, 6-bogey round of 74. Nevertheless, his 69-68-72-74 = 283 resulted in T58 and $13,080.

More than I made this week!

On to Pebble Beach and the AT&T Pro-Am!

Both Brian and Jay have committed (Brian has not yet confirmed and may not play). John Riegger is also in the field. We've not seen John since the Sony Open in Hawaii: It has been tough for players with higher 'numbers' -- 2008 cards via Q-School and Nationwide Tour -- to make the field in the West Coast events. And this makes things even more difficult in the 'reshuffle' -- a new assignment of 'numbers' based on YTD money-earned -- that occurs periodically throughout the year. Greg Kraft and Neal Lancaster are also in the field, playing in their first PGA TOUR event of the year.

Good luck to all!

No Brian At Pebble
Brian will not play this week. However, he'll be in LA the following week for the Northern Trust Open at Riviera CC.
