Question for Ted: Strength or Technique?
Ted,

I have a strength vs. technique question.

I've seen you hit in person and you are impressively long. Obviously, your technique is good, but my assumption is that at some point technique must give way to right tricep strength. Is right tricep strength the difference maker in hitting, assuming a reasonable technique? What is your right tricep strength level, i.e., how much weight can you press in a right tricep press?

Good question...I have no idea how strong I am. I'm sure you can tell that I haven't darkened the door of many fitness facilities.

I know that I always had a lot of strength for my size. I ran for 8 years in high school and college. We had a rope in our basketball gym that went to the ceiling, @ 25 feet. Our cross country regiment was 5 miles in the morning and 10 times up the rope before class. I never had to touch the rope with my legs or feet. That being said, I was 6'0" and 126 lbs. More importantly, high school was many moons ago. With the extra 64 pounds, I'm afraid that I'd have to take the elevator to the roof.

I think that part of my mechanical advantage is the length of my arms. My arms are very long for my size. I can't wear 33" sleeve lengths. 34"/35" are more my speed.

10 times up and down a 25 foot rope with arm strength only; impressive! I could never come close to that in school.

The reason I asked my question is that my full swing distance with a 48 degree pitching wedge is 130 yards with Swinging and only 105-110 with Hitting and I am trying to figure out why the disparity.

I can tricep press 20# 10 times with right arm only; probably not very good. But, for someone who is 6'2" and wears a 35" sleeve, it seems I ought to be getting more leverage with a Hitting procedure.

I think you should. There could be any number of reasons. I find often that Swingers lose a good Release Point when trying to Hit. Firstly, because the Right Arm Throw is so foreign, you must learn a new feel through the new mechanic. Then it must be timed. The Start Down must be slow, then it has to be a crescendo of acceleration.

Thank you, Ted. Much appreciated.
I'll work on those things and see how it goes.

backswing height
I take my b/swing to about 4 " above shoulder height,I feel if I go any higher,I,m out of plane, and the hit isnt as good(hitters pattern),how do I get more length from hitters method.I,ll be honest,on a good day,240-250 metres,I get this feeling that Im just not getting as much out of swing as I can,I just get this feeling that there,s more gas in the tank, how can I acheive more out of swing,Thanks in advance
